No New Coal Rally 1pm, 25 February

February 16th, 2010 · No Comments

There will be a rally outside State Parliament on Macquarie Street Sydney at 1pm, Thursday 25 February to launch the No New Coal campaign.  coal-plant-skull

We will be calling on all parties in the State Parliament to commit to phasing out the use of coal due to its massive impact on the climate.

Coal is the number one source of carbon emissions and Australia is the world’s biggest exporter of coal.  Most of our electricity is currently produced in coal-fired power stations.  The current government is currently considering plans to build two new coal-fired power stations in NSW – absolute disaster for the climate.

The No New Coal campaign is a combination of climate action groups and environmental organisations who want a plan to phase out coal and make NSW the clean energy state.

lesshotair150pxActivists have been gathering signatures on a No New Coal petition, and this will be tabled in Parliament on 25 February.

If you believe it is important to phase out coal and switch to clean energy, like solar, wind and geothermal power, then please come along.  Bring placards and banners.
