On 21st September, Climate Action Groups from around Australia rallied at Parliament House in Canberra in support of the community written Climate Protection Bill. 2,500 signed postcards and over 1,000 individual signatures were handed to Greens Senator for WA, Scott Ludlam, who promised to distribute them to the other members of Parliament. Read more about the event here.
The Climate Protection Bill, written by 65 different Climate Action Groups representing over 6,000 Australians, is similar to the bill being introduced in Parliament in October 2008 by Tony Windsor. The Private Member’s Bill written by Tony Windsor, although not yet released to the public, will hopefully endorse the same measures as included in the Climate Protection Bill, including a target to reduce emissions by 50% from 1990 levels by 2020 and by 100% by 2040.
